Reporting an unsafe Uber driver during a ride
You may report an unsafe Uber driver during or after a ride.
If you report an unsafe Uber driver, is it anonymous?
Yes. You may report an unsafe Uber driver anonymously. The driver won’t know what rider reported them.
What happens if you report an unsafe Uber driver?
If you report an unsafe Uber driver, Uber keeps a record of the report. Most often, they send the driver a message saying that they received a report of dangerous driving. They remind the driver of community guidelines and requirements for safe driving. If a driver has a pattern of dangerous driving, Uber may remove them from the platform.
For serious allegations, an Uber representative may contact you for more information.
What kind of unsafe driving can you report to Uber?
A report of unsafe driving to Uber doesn’t have to be an emergency. It’s any kind of driving that makes you feel unsafe. Examples of things you may report include:
- Speeding
- Harsh braking
- Stopping in an unsafe location
- Weaving through traffic, unsafe lane changes
- Distracted driving, including using a mobile phone without a mount
- Signs of alcohol use or intoxication
- Disobeying traffic signals or stop signs
- Driving the wrong way
Uber will review the nature and severity of the report when they decide how to respond.
Uber Community Guidelines for Safe Driving
The Uber community guidelines create standards for drivers and riders. There is a section called “Compliance with Road Rules.” Drivers must follow the rules of the road. Because Uber operates all over the world, the rules of the road may vary. Uber warns drivers that serious or repeated traffic infringements are an indicator of unsafe driving.
The community guidelines for “Safe Driving” say that drivers may be deactivated for even a single, serious complaint of dangerous driving. They have a zero tolerance policy for drug and alcohol use by drivers. They say that a single confirmed report of using the platform after having consumed drugs or alcohol will result in deactivation.
